Inventories and advisory

After working for 20 years in the field of historical traffic routes ViaStoria can present a long list of references. The most important among them is without doubt the Inventory of Historic Ways of Communication in Switzerland (IVS) that ViaStoria has developed, starting from the earliest considerations about its methodology, from 1984 to 2003.

The advisory capacity has rested on the one side on a detailed knowledge about the object of study, including historical construction techniques and materials and, on the other side, on the study of historical sources demonstrating the earlier importance of paths and roads for the traffic. Many of the renovated ways are now wonderful hiking trails whereas others have been adapted to today’s road traffic and integrated into the present road network.
